Stationery and Desk Accessory Store Opening at Former Loehmann’s Space - iLovetheUpperWestSide.com

Nov 04, 2024

Goods for the Study, a stationery store, will take over part of the former Loehmann’s space at the Ansonia

Goods for the Study, a store dedicated to stationery, writing instruments, desk accessories and lamps, will soon open on the Upper West Side.

The space has been empty since at least September 2014, with Loehmann’s as the former tenant. Other parts of the former Loehmann’s storefront are now occupied by Sephora and a second-floor Mount Sinai Doctors’ office.

This will be Goods for the Study’s third shop. The first store opened in Nolita (234 Mulberry Street) in 2013 and was followed by a second store in the West Village (50 West 8th Street).

Goods for the Study shops offer stationery, notebooks, sketch pads, greeting and note cards, calendars and office supplies. The stores specialize in writing implements, sourced from around the world, with a variety of fountain pens, brush pens, ballpoint pens, and markers.

If that gives you choice overload, the stores offer sketch pads to try out the different options.

Goods for the Study is the sister shop of the McNally Jackson bookstores, an independent bookseller with five locations.

Sarah McNally, owner of McNally Jackson bookstores and Good for the Study, opened the first bookstore in December 2004 in Nolita.

A 2011 New York Times profile said McNally was “contemplating a venture on the Upper West Side.” This winter, an Upper West Side venture finally becomes a reality nearly fifteen years later.

If you cannot wait for the store to open and cannot make it to any of the other locations, Goods for the Study offers an online store. The Nolita and West Village locations are open 7 days a week.
