Three Shelby County artists to participate in 23rd annual Arts on the Green

Shelby County, KY: Three Shelby County artists have juried into the prestigious Arts on the Green juried art & Craft festival: Candace Cottle, Shakia Harris and Pam Sturm. Hosted by the non-profit Arts Association of Oldham County, the event will take place Sat., June 10 (10-4) and Sun., June 11 (11-4) at the beautiful Maples Park in Crestwood, KY. This year's festival will also feature the Louisville Food Truck Association's Food Truck Invasion with 15 food trucks onsite each day offering a wide variety of delicious food.

Cottle, Harris and Sturm will join over 80 artists showcasing original handcrafted paintings and drawings, mixed media, photography, ceramics, sculpture, glass, jewelry, candles, soaps, foods, metal, wood, and fiber. Take advantage of some one-on-one time with each artist to discover the story behind their art. Handcrafted art is the heart of this festival.

Candace Cottle: Candace's father has always been a craftsman and from an early age, she watched him build anything he put his mind to. Her focus on crafts started with crocheting in college and branched out from there. At the beginning of the pandemic, her brother bought a commercial grade bandsaw and offered to give her his smaller one. The result was a flower vase and some simple wooden flowers, along with a newfound love for wood. Candace has continued to hone her craft and now sets up at craft fairs such as Arts on the Green.

Shakia Harris: Shakia is a very talented oil painter and self-taught artist. Her artwork is captivating with its bold colors and textures. Encouraged by her husband, Mitch, she decided to pursue her talent. She began her artistic journey by raising money for her special education classroom, but soon found that people across the country were eager to collect and buy her art. Today, Shakia's accomplishments include a solo exhibition and being accepted into multiple juried art festivals, including the prestigious St. James Court Art Show, Big Four Art Festival and Arts on the Green.

Pam Sturm: As a ceramic artist, Pam is drawn to curvaceous, visually supple silhouettes for surface treatments, designs, and glaze combinations. Having a lifelong love of art, nature and the textiles, before she even touches the clay she has a visual idea of what she is creating, how it will be altered, glazed and fired. Pam adds many other creative choices along the way, which affects the evolution of the finished piece. Each decision creates new possibilities for her beautiful artwork.

Admission to AOG is FREE and shuttle bus service, courtesy of LFTA, will transport attendees to and from the park and 3 designated sites: South Oldham Middle School, South Oldham High School and Camden Station Elementary. Off-site parking is also available and within walking distance of the main entrance on Railroad Avenue. Handicap parking and transport will be available on site. Event will take place rain or shine.

Adult beverages will be offered by West Sixth Brewing, Hive & Barrel Meadery and Wildside Winery. There will be a full line-up of local entertainment again this year, featuring Jonathan Rideout, Griffin Shively, Erin & Skylar, Aca Belles, Allen Lane, Ida Clare, Living Statues, and magician Dave Cottrell, who is also a Shelby County resident. A Children's Tent area will provide activities for children and the park contains a splashpad and playground area, owned and ran by the City of Crestwood.

The Maples Park is located at 6826 W. Hwy 22, in Crestwood, KY 40014. Its 22-acres are open from dawn to dusk, and features a picnic area, paved pathways, walking trails, and more. The park allows pets on leashes.
