A CLEANING expert has listed the four items to never chuck in the dishwasher, claiming that the appliance will destroy them over time.

Dishwasher is a godsend on days when you don't have the energy to wash plates and pots in the sink - but now, one whizz has urged fellow cleaning fanatics to be careful of what they put inside.

TikTok cleaning pro Caroline, better known to her fans as @neat.caroline, said there were four popular items that should be washed manually.

One of them, she revealed in her video, was a cast iron pan, which can become ''vulnerable to rust''.

Meanwhile, sharp knives are also better washed in the sink, Caroline went on to add.

''The dishwasher can dull the blades.''

Another common kitchen staple to best clean in the dishwasher is wooden spoons.

Caroline, from New York, the US, said that this was because the handy appliance can lead to cracking, as well as warped wood.

Sharing her tips on TikTok, the whizz also strongly advised against throwing in any gold-coloured flatware when washing the rest of the dishes.

She explained that over time, the flatware will lose its vibrant colour.

The video has been viewed 12k times so far, with dozens of social media users saving the advice.

Numerous people flocked to comments, where many also shared their recommendations.
